104: Your Most Prized Identity: Priests Created to Draw Near to God

Edward Welch, M.Div., Ph.D.
Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation
1803 E. Willow Grove Ave.
Glenside, PA 19038

Summary
Scripture prefers to give us an assortment of identities—child, royalty, warrior, friend, and many more. A neglected role is that of a priest, yet this is the most relationally rich of all biblical identities. As priests, we learn that God desires to be close to His people and invites us to draw very near to Him. The primary job description of priests is to draw near and enjoy God. This can revitalize obedience, and identity is essential for those who live with shame.

Learning Objectives
Participants will:
• Identify the primacy of the priestly identity in Scripture for coaches and pastors
• Connect this identity to their own obedience to Christ and reframe obedience to draw near to the Lord
Make this identity available to those who have been abused and shamed
