Summary
All of us are affected by mental illness somehow—some because of their own diagnosis, some because a loved one has an illness, and many more because we regularly interact with people who have mental disorders. Churches and ministries are the first places people go for help in addressing a mental health problem, yet many ministry leaders do not know how to respond or fail to recognize the opportunity to provide critical support. In this workshop, Amy Simpson and Matthew Stanford will provide understanding for faith leaders and insights into how the Church can better serve those living with serious mental illness and their families.

Learning Objectives
Participants will:
• Articulate how churches are uniquely positioned to minister to individuals impacted by serious mental illness
• Recognize that ministry to those living with serious mental illness is part of the Church’s mission and calling
• Outline specific ways ministries can helpfully respond to mental illness in those they serve
