Crisis Pregnancy and Abortion Recovery Network

The Crisis Pregnancy and Abortion Recovery Network (CPARN), a division of the American Association of Christian Counselors, exists to engage Christian counselors, pastors, pregnancy center staff, and caregivers in offering compassionate care and competent counsel to women, couples, and families affected by an unexpected pregnancy or past abortion.

Awareness and Advocacy

A crisis pregnancy happens. She’s typically somewhere between the ages of 16 and 24. Alone, scared and confused. And she’ll make one of the most difficult and important decisions of her life; to keep the baby or abort?

Most of the time, she’ll decide within a 24-hour window. Rarely does she have someone to talk to… someone to confide in… someone who will listen, understand and help her through it all.

More than 1.2 million abortions are performed every year in this country (22% of all pregnancies), and the United States allows abortion-on-demand for any reason (only China and Canada also fall into this category). A stunning 10% of women have an abortion by age 20 and the number jumps to 25% by age 30. That’s one in four women, and one in four men, who has been impacted by abortion!

Support and Counsel

The reality is that we live in a highly sexualized culture where sex outside of marriage in no longer viewed as a serious moral issue. For those who become pregnant and choose to abort, the emotional, physical and spiritual pain can linger for a lifetime. And, tragically, adolescent and unwed mothers face increased risks for domestic violence, depression, unemployment, and a life of poverty.

As Christian counselors and caregivers, we must certainly care about every baby, but also every woman. Like no other life event, pregnancy can cause overwhelming stress on a woman, her significant other/spouse, and extended family. As the world’s leading faith-based mental health organization, AACC seeks to equip Christian counselors, caregivers, and coaches in supporting and encouraging women who are wrestling with the many factors involved in making a decision about parenting, adoption or abortion.

Furthermore, considering the emotional and psychological impact of abortion, the Crisis Pregnancy & Abortion Recovery Network aims to educate Christian professionals about the process of abortion recovery. Our vision is to empower Christian counselors and caregivers to walk with women and men in the healing journey from guilt, shame and regret… to forgiveness, freedom and growth.

Practical Training

Through our partnership with Care Net, the largest pregnancy center network in North America, as well as ministries devoted to abortion recovery and healing, AACC is on the front lines of networking, training and supporting Christian professionals and lay workers. As just one example, our Crisis Pregnancy Coach and Counselor Training and Certification Programs offer the latest medical, psychological, and practical information on unexpected pregnancy and healing after an abortion.

If you work with women in any capacity, consider the fact that one in four of the women you interact with carries the wounds of a past abortion. Many may be currently facing an unplanned pregnancy and wrestling with the decision to choose life… or the “quick fix” of abortion. As a member of the CPARN division, you will be empowered and equipped to listen, care and support these women and their families, offering practical help and Christ-centered hope.
