Dear Colleague:

I am pleased to announce the next course in our new professional development series, Soul Care and Biblically-based Counseling 2.0—a resource that features a leading expert in Christian counseling and biblical integration, Dr. Ian Jones.

In this three-part series, Dr. Jones offers invaluable training on the use of biblical wisdom and resources to integrate within the counseling paradigm for providing faith-based people helping, as well as instruction on how to start effective church counseling programs. Soul Care and Biblically-based Counseling 2.0 guides caretakers through the intentional application of a Christian approach to counseling models by using personal faith, theology, biblical knowledge, research-oriented principals, and a Christ-centered worldview. The spiritual development of the counselor is addressed as an important element in the change process and counselors are given insight on helping clients better understand God’s perspective in their lives.

Three, one-hour presentations that include:
SCBC 101: Developing Biblically-based Counseling Approaches

Presented by Ian Jones, Ph.D., Ph.D.

This presentation provides training in the assessment and evaluation of counseling approaches through a biblical worldview. Dr. Jones explains how an active faith, biblical knowledge, understanding of caregiving principles, and the incorporation of scientific research can assist Christian practitioners in applying a faith-based orientation to the helping relationship.

SCBC 102: Spirituality and Counseling—Resources and Personal Development

Presented by Ian Jones, Ph.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Jones describes the importance of spiritual development for both the counselor and counselee in a biblically-saturated model of counseling. The presentation offers guidance on integrating Scripture effectively within the counseling process, how to appropriately represent Christ to a client, and how to lead clients to a balanced understanding of God’s perspective.

SCBC 103: Developing a Counseling Program in Your Church

Presented by Ian Jones, Ph.D., Ph.D.

This presentation demonstrates the research supported effectiveness of lay counseling programs and approaches, including the personal characteristics of a helper as the greatest factor in the counseling relationship. A variety of lay counseling models are discussed and encouragement is provided to caregivers in applying spiritual resources when working with others.

When you successfully finish this program (more than 200,000 students have enrolled in a Light University course), you will earn a Certificate of Completion.

Continuing Education credits are also available, if needed, for mental health professionals.
