Dear Colleague:

I am pleased to announce another brand-new professional development course, Christian Counseling Skills and Techniques 2.0: Creating the Environment for Lasting Change and Transformation, with two of our very own leading mental health experts, Drs. Eric Scalise and Ken Nichols.

What Makes Your Counseling Christian?

If you’re like me, you are constantly looking for biblical resources to help you more effectively understand and counsel others, especially when it comes to bringing the presence and power of God into the helping relationship.

Whether working with couples, teens or families with grief and loss issues, trauma and abuse or addictions, you may have all the knowledge you need, but the heart of effective counseling is also knowing how to use your skills and techniques to create the right spiritual environment and one that facilitates lasting change and transformation. These three, one-hour presentations are a must for every counselor, pastor, lay leader and caregiver.

Christian Counseling Skills and Techniques 2.0 is a great companion course to all the subject matter you have received in your training. Each presentation is biblically-based, clinically-excellent and theologically-sound. This new, three-hour, DVD-based study program is tailored just for you!

Three, one-hour presentations that include:
CCST 101: Elements of Effective Helping Relationships

Presented by Eric Scalise, Ph.D. and Ken Nichols, Psy.D.

Research shows that beyond one’s clinical skills, counseling techniques or theoretical preferences, the ability to establish and maintain a meaningful helping relationship is what promotes effective change and growth. This session explores multiple components of Christian caregiving. Counselors must balance how to bear a client’s burdens and also foster hope through active participation in the process. Common pitfalls are discussed and biblical teachings are applied to building a therapeutic alliance.

CCST 102: The Incredible Power of Intentional Listening

Presented by Eric Scalise, Ph.D. and Ken Nichols, Psy.D.

Everyone has a story to tell… and all of us need to tell our stories. Effective listening is the critical key, and the core of transformative listening flows out of biblical wisdom. Distinct from normal social conversation, this orientation within the counseling office is an overtly active process. This session explores some of the nuances that will enable counselors to uniquely approach different client populations, as well as presenting problems in their listening techniques.

CCST 103: Counselor Responses that Influence the Helping Process

Presented by Eric Scalise, Ph.D. and Ken Nichols, Psy.D.

A primary responsibility of counselors is to understand goals in terms of life change. This does not come exclusively through direction and recommendations, but from a gradual, patient process of Christlike influence. In asking God for direction, while drawing on His Word and a spirit of wisdom and discernment, people gain greater clarity when seeking help. This session explores the role of Christian counselors by integrating primary styles of influencing.

When you successfully finish this program (more than 200,000 students have enrolled in a Light University course), you will earn a Certificate of Completion.

Continuing Education credits are also available, if needed, for mental health professionals.

Sincerely,

Timothy E. Clinton, Ed.D., LPC, LMFT
