Dear Colleague:

I am pleased to announce another brand-new professional and personal development course, A Theology of Christian Counseling 2.0, with one of the most respected and trusted Christian clinicians, pastors and counseling professors in the world, Dr. Ian Jones.

Many Christian counselors have never received a biblically-oriented or faith-based training model in their educational programs, especially if the learning environment was secular in nature. It is important for caregivers to understand the historical roots of the Christian counseling movement and know how to effectively anchor their faith and practices.

If you’re like me, it is extremely important to constantly look for resources to help you more effectively use the Bible when serving those who are hurting. This course is designed to meet the growing demand for specialization in the field, as well as foster trust and confidence among referral sources and within the local church. This new, three-hour study program is a DVD-based training platform tailored just for you—the Christian counselor.

Three, one-hour presentations include:
TCC-101. Christian Counseling and Worldviews

Presented by Ian Jones, Ph.D., Ph.D.

Most counseling textbooks trace the origins of modern counseling back to Sigmund Freud. While no formal counseling theory may have existed in scope and complexity before Freud, counseling concepts and personality theories certainly predate the 19th century. The failure to acknowledge or study counseling approaches is not just a historical oversight, but it also represents a worldview that conflicts with Scripture. This lecture seeks to define one’s worldview while addressing the naturalistic orientation and secular modernism that permeates modern counseling theories, as compared to biblical theism.

TCC-102. Finding a Biblical Foundation: Starting from the Beginning

Presented by Ian Jones, Ph.D., Ph.D.

In order to gain the most comprehensive perspective of biblical counseling, one needs to understand the human condition and its origins. To know man, the counselor must first know God, which affects self-understanding and relationships. Even though sin permeates lives, there is a redemptive promise in God’s grace. As a result, counseling models should address man’s creation in the image of God, the fall, sin, and the effects of evil. Some of the most basic questions in life are expressed throughout biblical history, and the guiding principle for biblical Christian counseling is the greatest commandment in Scripture.

TCC-103. Developing a Biblical Foundation: A Christocentric Model for Counseling

Presented by Ian Jones, Ph.D., Ph.D.

Biblically-based counseling is a process of communication between a counselor and a client or person in need. It is designed to achieve healing in relationship to God, others, and the self. This is a dynamic process involving the expectation of change on the part of the client. Ultimate healing is found in relationship to God, and the goal of Christian counseling is to help the client experience genuine healing from God through salvation. The model for Christian counseling is ultimately found in Jesus Christ, and as Christian counselors seek godly wisdom and understanding, they will be more conformed to His image.

When you successfully finish this program (more than 200,000 students have enrolled in a Light University course), you will earn a Certificate of Completion.

Continuing Education credits are also available, if needed, for mental health professionals.

Sincerely,

Timothy E. Clinton, Ed.D., LPC, LMFT
President, AACC
