As Christian counselors and caregivers, it’s critical that we stay informed about what is going on in our country’s legal and political fronts. In an increasingly secular society, many challenges come against our clients’ rights and freedoms to seek out the help they desire. Calif. Lawmakers Approve Ban on Sexual Orientation Change Efforts for Teens
California is getting closer to becoming the first state to ban reparative therapy, which is aimed at making homosexuals straight, for minors. The State Assembly passed the ban Tuesday. In a 51-22 vote, the Assembly approved a bill that would not allow those under 18 years of age to undergo sexual orientation change efforts “regardless of the willingness of a patient” or a “patient’s parent.”

Calif. Assembly Votes for Law Stating Child Can Have More Than Two Parents
The lower house of the California legislature has voted for a bill that would allow judges in the state to rule that children have more than two parents. In a vote of 51 yeas to 26 nays, on Monday the Calif. State Assembly passed Senate Bill 1476, which allows for children to have in legal terms more than two parents.
